The good stuff
A straightforward setup, steady work, and room to grow — here's what you get working with ATX Handyman.
Paid per job
No waiting on a fixed hourly paycheck cycle — you're paid for the work you complete, at a rate agreed on before the job starts.
Flexible schedule
As an independent contractor, you generally have more say over your day-to-day schedule than a typical 9-to-5.
Steady local work
Jobs are already lined up across South Austin and the greater metro — no cold-calling or chasing your own leads.
An established local business
Work under a licensed & insured company with real customers and a real reputation, not a faceless gig app.
Room to grow
Start with the everyday jobs and pick up more specialized, higher-paying work — remodels, garage doors, outdoor kitchens — as you build a track record.
A straightforward crew
Clear communication, clear expectations, and no drama — on every job, every time.
You’re brought on as an independent contractor
Here’s exactly what that means, in plain terms, before you apply.
You’re paid per job, not by the hour
Rates are agreed on before each job starts, based on the scope of work — not a fixed hourly wage or salary.
No taxes are withheld from your pay
As a 1099 independent contractor, nothing is withheld for income or self-employment tax. You’re responsible for setting aside money for your own taxes as you earn.
You’ll get a 1099-NEC, then file your own 1040
If you earn $600 or more in a year, ATX Handyman sends you a Form 1099-NEC early the following year showing your total earnings. You use that number when you file your own personal tax return (Form 1040) with the IRS — the same annual return everyone files, contractor or not.
More control over your schedule
As a contractor, you generally have more say over your day-to-day schedule and how you get the work done, within what’s agreed for each job.
This is general information about how the working relationship is structured, not tax or legal advice. A tax professional or accountant can help with quarterly estimated payments and deductions that apply to independent contractors.
Where you could fit in
Four ways to join the crew — pick the one that matches your experience, or apply as a general fit if you’re not sure.
General Handyman / Helper
Everyday repairs, fixture installs, drywall patching, painting, and general punch-list work. Prior experience is a plus — we’ll train the right person.
TV Mounting Installer
Flat-screen TV wall mounts, wire and cable concealment, and related fixture installs, done clean and level every time.
Remodeling / Skilled Trade Crew
Bathroom and kitchen remodels — tile, carpentry, fixture and finish work. Prior remodeling or trade experience expected.
Join the Crew — General Application
Not sure where you fit? Apply here and we’ll match you to the right role based on your skills, experience, and availability.

General requirements across every role — specifics vary a bit by position and are discussed when you apply.
Reliable transportation
A valid driver’s license and dependable way to get to job sites across South Austin and the metro.
Own basic tools preferred
Not required for every role, but helpful. Larger equipment for bigger jobs is provided.
Professional & punctual
Comfortable working directly with customers in their homes, on time, every time.
Experience is a plus
Prior trade experience helps, especially for remodeling — but we’ll train the right person for helper-level roles.

Legally eligible to work as an independent contractor in the U.S.
Background check
Comfortable with a background check as part of the application process.

Common questions
Am I an employee or an independent contractor?
Everyone who works with ATX Handyman comes on as a 1099 independent contractor, not a W-2 employee. You're paid per completed job, you don’t have taxes withheld from your pay, and you’ll receive a Form 1099-NEC at year end (if you earn $600 or more) to use when filing your own personal Form 1040 tax return.
How and when do I get paid?
You’re paid per completed job or project at a rate agreed on before the work starts, rather than an hourly wage. Payment timing is confirmed with you directly once you’re brought on.
Do I need my own tools?
Basic hand tools of your own are preferred, especially for the Handyman and TV Mounting roles. Larger equipment for bigger jobs like remodels is provided. Don’t have a full set yet? Say so on your application — it’s not automatically disqualifying for the right candidate.
What happens after I apply?
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. If it looks like a fit, you’ll get a call or text at the phone number you provide to set up a conversation and, for hands-on roles, a quick working interview.
